Formative Evaluation & Research
Overview

Florida embraces a model of continuous improvement in the implementation of its competency-based, on-the-job, alternative certification programs. School district program coordinators provide frequent feedback to state-level administrators, and a series of formative program evaluations and research initiatives offer an accumulation of data. The Florida Department of Education incorporates all customer feedback and research data into revisions and enhancements of program resources, as well as improved support and assistance to program coordinators and teacher participants. As the picture of Florida's Alternative Certification Program in action emerges through the research-based model of continuous improvement, Florida's leaders will assess all evidence of its impact on recruitment and retention of effective teachers, development of professional communities, and student achievement.
