Florida's Alternative Certification Program was funded by a Teacher Qualify Enhancement State Grant awarded to the Florida Department of Education by the United States Department of Education.
Work throughout both the conceptual and developmental phases of the program exemplified statewide collaboration throughout Florida's seamless K-20 education system. A K-20 Partnership Committee conceived the vision of essential features for Florida's Alternative Certification Program. A K-20 Co-development Team then translated the vision into the fully developed program for implementation by Florida school districts.
The K-20 Partnership Committee included representation from the Governor's Office, the Florida Legislature, school superintendents and district administrators, teachers, school boards, university boards of trustees, deans from colleges of education plus colleges of arts and sciences, presidents of universities and community colleges, the Florida Education Standards Commission, parents, and business leaders.
The K-20 Co-development Team included the following:
- Florida Department of Education
- Florida State University School, College of Education, Florida State University
- College of Education, University of South Florida - Saint Petersburg
- Teaching & Leadership Center @ Florida Atlantic University
- North East Florida Educational Consortium
- Broward County School District
- Florida Center for Interactive Media @ Tallahassee Community College
- Florida Community College Distance Learning Consortium
The Ed-ventures include art adaptations and quotes based upon Alices Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol, with illustrations by John Tenniel. The first edition was published in 1865, and the original work has passed into the public domain.
